Expungements in Nashville
Record-Specific Expungement Guidance for Nashville Residents
Expungement is the legal process for removing eligible criminal-record information in Tennessee. The first step is determining whether the case ended without a conviction or involved a conviction that may qualify under a separate statute. At Flexer Law, we’ve served Middle Tennessee since 1981 and provide guidance based on each person’s record.
Our criminal defense attorneys represent people facing Tennessee state and federal charges. Their active membership in the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations keeps our work connected to current legal and court developments.

Non-Conviction Records & Eligible Convictions Follow Different Paths
Records that didn’t result in a conviction follow a different path from conviction-based expungements. Tennessee Code Annotated § 40-32-106 provides free expungement without a waiting period for dismissals, acquittals, no true bills, and arrests that didn’t produce a charge. A no true bill means the grand jury declined to indict the accused person.
A dismissal may also be recorded as nolle prosequi, a formal notice that the prosecution won’t proceed with the charge. Eligibility for conviction expungement is governed by Tennessee Code Annotated § 40-32-107 and depends on the precise offense, sentence, and prior record. We review the official disposition rather than assuming every closed case qualifies.

How We Review & File a Nashville Expungement Petition
During the initial consultation, you meet directly with an attorney who reviews the accusation, disposition, and available legal options. Our attorneys bring more than 100 years of combined legal experience to that analysis. As the case develops, we explain each upcoming proceeding so you know what the process requires.
An expungement review typically covers three core steps:
- Record review: We examine the case disposition, offense classification, sentencing history, and completion of court obligations.
- Eligibility analysis: We determine whether the record involves a non-conviction disposition or a conviction potentially covered by Tennessee’s expungement statute.
- Petition preparation: When the record qualifies, we file the petition in the court with jurisdiction over the original criminal case.
Davidson County General Sessions Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases and preliminary hearings in felony cases. Following a grand jury indictment, felony cases proceed in Davidson County Criminal Court. We serve clients across Middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Columbia.
Get an Eligibility Review Based on Your Record
An attorney review can clarify whether your case ended without a conviction, whether a conviction may be statutorily eligible, and which court documents are needed.
You’ll receive guidance based on your actual record rather than a general eligibility checklist. We explain the applicable waiting period and next procedural step.
